At Peachy AF, sobriety is the start of something amazing. Our blog is all about growth, confidence, and living alcohol-free. Dive in for real stories, tips, and support. Let’s keep growing, one sober step at a time.
If you’d have told me a few years ago that I’d be sitting here, writing a blog about confidence and sobriety, I’d have probably run away faster than you could finish the sentence. And I mean that literally—I was once so anxious that I bolted mid-conversation because my brain went into full “fly my pretty, fly!” mode.
Honestly, the thought of being in social situations made my heart race. I remember standing in a queue at Subway, practicing my sandwich order over and over in my head like it was some sort of complex equation. I was so low on confidence and self-belief that even something as simple as ordering food felt like climbing a mountain.
Fast forward to now, and I’m speaking in front of hundreds of people at events, going live online without a second thought, and get this—I can order a Subway without rehearsing it 20 times! It might sound trivial, but to me, that’s massive growth.
Now, I’m not saying this to brag (well, maybe a tiny bit), but more to show you that if I can get here, you can too. Sobriety hasn’t just changed my life; it’s given me the curiosity and confidence to actually start living it.
When I first quit drinking, I wasn’t magically confident the next day. In fact, at first, the anxiety was still very much there. Sure, quitting alcohol took away that constant feeling of dread and panic, but it didn’t hand me confidence on a silver platter.
But something else happened—I got curious. Curious about what life could look like without booze. Curious about what I was capable of without that crutch. I started wondering, “What if I could speak in front of people? What if I could share my story? What if I could actually go after the things I really want?”
That curiosity was the spark. It didn’t instantly make me confident, but it got me asking questions, dreaming bigger, and considering possibilities that seemed way out of reach before.
Now, here’s the thing—confidence didn’t just fall into my lap. I had to work on it, step by tiny step. It wasn’t like flipping a switch; it was more like building a muscle. And, just like any other skill, confidence takes practice.
I know, I know—you’re probably thinking, “Practice being confident? How on earth do you do that?” But hear me out. You start small. Tiny, even. Smaller than you’re probably imagining.
You set yourself little goals, each day, and I mean tiny goals. Things that you probably don’t even think are linked to confidence, but they are—because everything is connected. Sobriety, wellness, mental health—it’s all part of the same package. So, if you want to wake up earlier, don’t go from 7:30 am to 5:00 am overnight. Set your alarm for 7:15 tomorrow, and gradually work your way down. The key is making those goals attainable and then ticking them off, one by one.
Why? Because every time you reach a small goal, you give yourself a little confidence boost. And it builds, step by step, until one day you realise you’ve become someone who can speak in front of hundreds, or tackle something that used to terrify you—like ordering a sandwich without panicking!
Here’s the really important bit: you need to reach these goals. That’s why they have to be small and achievable. Too often, we set ourselves massive expectations, and when we don’t meet them, we feel like we’ve failed. That feeling knocks our confidence, and before you know it, we’re stuck in the same cycle.
So, start with baby steps. Reach those goals. Celebrate each win—no matter how small. Tick those boxes and watch your confidence grow, just like it did for me. One sober step at a time, you’ll get there. And one day, you’ll be writing your own blog about how you found your confidence!
Sobriety is the spark, curiosity is the fuel, and every little step you take is a step closer to being the person you’ve always wanted to be. So, what tiny goal are you setting today?
I hope this blog entry speaks to you. Remember, you’re not alone, and every step you take in your sober journey is something to be proud of.
Keep going, keep growing, and keep being peachy! 🍑
